Today, on PlayStation Blog, Hideaki Nishino announced that the PS5 will have a new system update. This time it isn’t just for stability. There are major improvements. First, and most important is the added ability to move PS5 games to supported external hard drives. The built-in SSD is fast but does run out of space with its paltry 825 GB size. This feature will alleviate that. The second major addition is the ability to cross-platform share play games. This will work with PS4 to PS5 and vice versa. Third, is the ability to request to join which will shorten the game invite process. Lastly, Parties and Friends have been separated into tabs to make quick to switch between Parties and Friends.
There will be also enhancement to the PS App on iPhone and Android devices as well.
The blog states that they will have an update on internal expansion storage in the future which is rumored to be during this Summer.
The update will be available tomorrow April 14th 2021.
