Unreal Engine 5: PlayStation 5 Tech Demo
As with previous console generations, Epic Games showcased a brand new tech demo for a new engine to give gamers a taste of what is possible on the upcoming systems. The tech demo in question was of course for Unreal Engine 5 and it was running on the PlayStation 5. If you missed it or just want to see it again, check out the full presentation below.
Backwards & Cross-Generation Compatibility

One of the big draws to Sony’s new console is backwards compatibility. The orginal PS3 featured it for PS1 and PS2 games but the PS2 compatibility was scrapped in later models of the console. Sony cites cost as the reason why but it seems that buing the games again via PSN was the real culprit. It is rumored that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with all previous PlayStation consoles but so far only the PS4/PS4 Pro is confirmed as of now. Over 100 titles are said to be backwards compatible with boosted performance at launch but the names of those games has not been announced. It has also been revealed that the vast majority of the PS4’s 4,000+ game library will be playable on the PlayStation 5.
Many games, primarily launch titles will be cross-generation. This means, for example, if this year’s Call of Duty game is made for both PS4 and PS5, then players on each console will be able to play against each other.
